YoCream vote marks string of organizing wins for Teamsters dairy conference
A division of French food group, YoCream Internationals Inc. will be joining Teamsters, Local 305 in Portland. Dairy workers voted to join in order to seek better work conditions and to have their voices heard at work.
Christopher Greenlee who is one of the new 45 Teamsters members says “We’re very satisfied that we are getting representation from the Teamsters because they represent almost all the dairies in our area.”
YoCream, which was founded in 1977, is a family owned frozen yogurt company. Danone originally purchased it for @103 million in 2010. This brand is marketed in the United States as Dannon. Furthermore, 37 dairy workers from Stoneyfield Farm (which is also a division of Dannon) joined Teamsters, Local 853.
Rome Aloise, who is the International Vice-President and newly appointed director of the Teamsters Dairy Conference says “These two significant victories coming in only about a month apart, are the first organizing wins to be coordinated by the Teamsters Dairy Conference in years, and makes a big step forward in our renewed efforts to build power for workers in the industry.”
Teamsters Union has created and maintained a positive record with Danone. The International Union of Food Workers, otherwise known as IUF (a global federation of trade unions) is affiliated with the Teamsters Union.
